"There were a lot of study choices and wishes, so the considerations were not simple and took time, but I still have no regrets about my choice. I made the decision regarding the study program I wish to attend after consulting with close family members and teachers,” says Dominyka Goldbergaitė, a journalism student at Vilnius University.

The Talent Evening of the Vilnius University (VU) community, which has become a tradition, was held in the theater hall of VU on March 30th. The event, which usually took place in November, was included in the VU 443 Birthday events series this year.

All members of the VU community – both working and studying at the university – were traditionally invited to participate in the event. Talents from various fields could participate: singers, musicians, acrobats, poets, artists – the organizers requested applications from anyone who wanted to have their talent appreciated.

In the evening of talents, 18 performers were delighted with their performances, including three students of Šiauliai Academy of Vilnius University. Micheal Adente, a student of the regional development and management study programme from Nigeria, Giedrė Krasauskaitė, a student of the music pedegogy study programme and Alma Laužonytė, a doctoral student in the field of educational sciences, shared their talents with the Vilnius University community.

We are glad that Alma Laužonytė, phD student at Šiauliai Academy of Vilnius University, won the Talent Evening, who impressed the audience with the recited verses. The third place was awarded by the commission to Micheal Adente, a student of the regional development and management study programme who played the saxophone. Congratulations to the students on their excellent performances!

Expressing support for the state and people of Ukraine and responding to recent events, Vilnius University (VU) offers free education and financial assistance to Ukrainian students if their higher education aspirations are disrupted. Support action for the Ukrainian academic community has also begun; everyone can participate.

The Senate of Vilnius University (VU) made a decision, ruling that the study process and its activities will be once again planned in a non-remote manner in the autumn semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. For this reason, the auditoriums, laboratories, libraries, courtyards and campuses will reopen in September.

In the latest QS World University Rankings 2022, Vilnius University (VU) took a record high position and for the first time, ranked 400th in this ranking.

This is also the highest rating ever achieved by Lithuanian universities in the global ranking of QS universities; therefore, this position is significant not only for the history of higher education at VU but also for the whole of Lithuanian higher education.

“Being among the 400 best universities in the world is a significant achievement for all Lithuanian higher education, testifying to the fact that our country has all the prerequisites for the highest level of international science and studies.

I am certain that we are strong enough to establish ourselves among the best universities in the world and to adhere to the highest standards as they are understood in the international scientific community. However, this requires constant constructive dialogue with the public authorities so that the funding of science and studies allows for the planning of a long-term perspective.

We prove that we can achieve and exceed the set goals, the state must prove that it considers education a priority,” VU Rector Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas said.

VU has been ranked in the global QS rankings among more than one and a half thousand other higher education institutions for almost a decade, and this time has risen by more than 200 positions in total. First evaluated in 2014, VU ranked 601-650. Currently, being in the 400th position, VU represents Lithuania by shaping high scientific standards, which increasingly contribute to attracting international researchers and becomes a serious competitor to prestigious European universities.

“We are proud to be a part of one of the top 400 universities in the world. The fact that talented graduates of Northern Lithuania regions can now obtain an education from Vilnius University while remaining in their homeland is great news for municipalities, businesses and industrial enterprises in our region.“ The director of VU Šiauliai Academy Prof. Renata Bilbokaitė said.

This year, VU ranked especially high - 135 position - in terms of teaching quality. According to the criterion of academic reputation, rising by 27 positions compared to last year, this year VU ranks 400th, and 434th in terms of employee evaluation.

When compiling QS world university rankings, higher education institutions are evaluated according to a total of six criteria: Academic Reputation, rating of the best institutions in terms of research, Employer Reputation, rating of the best professional training institutions, Citations per Faculty, the ratio of the number of students and lecturers in the departments (Faculty Student), the share of foreign lecturers (International Faculty) and the number of foreign students (International Students).

Given the current epidemiological situation in the country, uncertainty and resulting anxiety, as well as to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection at our University, Senate decided that all study activities at Vilnius University are to be carried out remotely until the end of the autumn semester.

On February 5, participants of the Erasmus+ project "KEY COMPETENCES FOR A LIFELONG LEARNING - KECO-4-ALL" (implemented by Šiauliai Lieporių Gymnasium) from the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands visited Šiauliai University. The guests had a unique opportunity to get acquainted with Šiauliai University and to learn in a different way. The project participants were able to compare the teaching methods most commonly used in Lithuania with the teaching methods of their own country and to share good practices. The aim of the participants of the international project of Lieporių Gymnasium in Šiauliai University was to raise awareness of literacy competence.
